My name is Jenn Givler, I’m an Online Business Building Guide.
I teach holistic and creative business owners how to build an online presence. Web sites, social media, SEO… it can all be so confusing and intimidating. I help people understand these tools and learn how to use them for their business.
I know what it’s like to feel lost in the world of technology. I know what it’s like to hate computers, and feel like someone on the outside looking in.
I also know what it feels like to be a healer who really wants to help people, but wants nothing to do with the business world.
My Journey - So Far…
My first experiences with computers were horrible. Back then, it was all DOS based. And I’m not a linear thinker – so knowing a bunch of codes to make a machine do something was just way beyond what my brain wanted to do.
In college, PC’s started to become more prevalent and I resisted learning about them, and actually swore them off.
Then, the day came when I had to learn them – it was vital for my job. Well, not only did I learn them, but I discovered that I had a knack for teaching other people how to use them. Especially beginners and people who were intimidated by technology.
In 1999, I started a healing business, Willow Fairy Creations. I was a Reiki practitioner and an Aromatherapist. I created handmade toiletries and gave Reiki treatments.
I remember how it felt like a such struggle to get a steady client flow. I wanted nothing more than to serve people through healing. But steady income and a thriving business were elusive.
I even began networking and marketing my business online as a way to get myself out there. But nothing was working.
You would think someone with a Public Relations degree and experience in marketing for small businesses and large companies would automatically know how to promote herself. Well, it’s quite different promoting a holistic business. The marketing tactics used in traditional businesses are very different than what we creative-holistic types are comfortable with.
I finally got smart and hired a coach who understood my business. She helped me take all these analytical concepts and helped me make sense of it all. The funny thing was – her methods STILL wouldn’t work for me without some tweaking. Because, even though she understood my business, she was still using traditional marketing methods with me.
I had to take what I knew, what I had learned, and what I was continually learning, and mold it to fit what felt right for me.
Business, computers, the internet… all this analytical stuff – it’s the last thing we want to think about. We just want to do the work we were meant to do. But these analytical things are crucial to our businesses.
I love the work I do. I especially love working with folks who feel they need a bit of extra care, some strong support, and who need things explained step-by-step in a non-technical, down-to-earth manner.
My Qualifications
I graduated from Shippensburg University with a BA in Public Relations. My corporate career included designing marketing campaigns, writing press releases, and designing sales presentations for both very small businesses and a larger, national software company.
I then went on to be a technical trainer, teaching end users and programmers a proprietary tax software program. I then moved into Human Resources where I began coaching employees, developing and implementing career plans, and training soft skills.
I’m a Reiki Master Teacher in both the Usui and Celtic modalities. I’m also a Certified Aromatherapist through the Pacific School of Aromatherapy.
